I would just like to profess my gratitude to Gretchen from Canela et Comino for picking these biscotti. They never jumped out at me from the book, and if I were going through this book myself, I may have never made them. What a mistake that would have been.
I usually have great willpower when making these Dorie treats. But not with this one. I ate so much of this dough. So. Much. I may have been able to make a third log with all of the dough that I ate. But I never count dough as actually eating calories, because really, it's not considered food. Right? Anyone?
Then, when they came out of the oven, I ate all of the small end pieces while they were still hot.
Then, I decided to take it up a notch and dip the ends in bittersweet chocolate and sprinkle some more almonds on top.
I had two of those (but broken up over a period of 4 hours, so the calories didn't feel as bad).
Hard on the outside, soft on the inside, covered in bittersweet chocolate, the almond flavor lingering on your tongue....
Snap out of it!
I had to get these out of my house. I brought them to work. I had one half of one that had broken (I mean, the poor thing was just lying there helpless. I had to eat it). People loved them. I mean, seriously loved. I had three people tell me they were the best biscotti they had ever eaten. My colleagues were taking them two and three at a time and stashing them in their drawers.
Was there crack in these cookies that nobody told me about? Because I'm tweaking for more biscotti.
Check out TWD for more biscotti brilliance!
I am totally with you on this post. I never would have picked this recipe, never. But they really are good. I've been finding excuses to have another. The only thing holding me back (at least a little) is that I want to serve them on Thursday, and I want to bring some to my mother and brothers at lunch today. Such a great flavor. And yes, the dough was pretty delicious. And the log ends...

I'm not sure, Teanna - did you like these? :) I agree with you on every point: the dough was great, warm bits were great, and I couldn't stop eating these. I have a freezer full of cookies and muffins and focaccia, and I can resist them. But these? No way. Your photos make me want yours!

Yeah, these were goooooood. I think I ate my weight in dough.

These were definitely difficult to resist. And dipping them in chocolate would have made it even harder on me too, they look so good!

OMG loved the ends too. Shared those with hubs. Just love tempting him.... he he he Loved your post. I too would NEVER have made the biscotti because of my Yuck impression. Anyway, me, I'm converted. Love them now.
Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit.

Great ends on those biscottis!

No, dough does not have calories. The calories don't form until it's baked. You're good to go! I loved the ends, too -- in fact, if I could I'd try to make some logs that had nothing but ends (kind of like the Seinfeld muffin tops). I am so glad that these were such a big hit -- I can't wait to make these again!

Biscotti crack, I love it!!! I think yours look wonderful. Much nicer than my crumbs!! And no, like the others have said, dough has not calories, neither do frozen cookies.

You've made me seriously considering taking the few biscotti I have left and dipping them in chocolate. Love your post title as always!

I ate all the ends too.
Yum!
Loved that you dipped them in chocolate. I almost did.

Those look great with the chocolate and nuts. And I agree that these are lick crack cookies. First I ate the cut off ends. Then I think I ate 4 more, but I was in a sugar induce stupor, so it could have been 5. Or six. And then I had three for breakfast. Sigh.

I will back you up on the calories from dough don't count thing. At least thats how I roll. I'd say if you have to be tweaking for something this is the lesser of many other tweak-able things, right? HAHA. So glad that you and CWs loved this recipe!

I love the chocolate dipped ends on yours! I still have some left (we are trying very hard to save some for my dad) so maybe I will try dipping some of mine.
Great job!

HAHA! You crack me up. Period. Glad you liked the biscotti . . . personally I am not a fan so I didn't make any this week (I baked coconut cupcakes instead). But you might convert me, lady! ;) Good job!

Hahahaha, I ate all the ends too. And, of course, my ends were HUGE because I knew where they were going to end up. Definitely high on crack biscottis.

I ended packing mine up for my fellow teachers. (Teachers, it's sad to say, will eat anything. Our lounge is regularly filled with leftover brownies, bar mitzvah cake, cookies... you name it... they'll eat it. I could leave Kibble and Bits as a joke and it would be devoured.)
So my Tuesdays with Dorie batches usually get packed up for those who read my blog. They love it, and I can get to barely stay ahead of the vicious weight gain cycle food blogging seems to have trapped me in. Everyday I look a little more like the giant blueberry-sized Violet Beauregard from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...
