This week, South in Your Mouth picked a great one. Blueberry Pie. I love blueberries. I am so surprised that so many people don't like blueberries. What's not to love? Subtle sweetness, great punch and burst of flavor when bitten into, high in antioxidants, low in calories. They totally balance out the 2 1/2 sticks of butter that this recipe calls for. Totally.
Seriously, though, after the ridiculous amount of food served this weekend, I wanted to swear off food altogether (not really). I was back in my groove. Eating healthy. Fought a pounding headache that lasted all day to have a great gym session. I swore to myself I would not eat poorly after this last big holiday weekend until Labor Day.
I lied to myself.
I had to, just had to, have a tiny piece of this pie. At 12:30 am.
But it was my FIRST REAL PIE! Not a crumb pie. A real pie. With the crust on top! And I'm very pleased with the outcome. Sure, some blueberries spilled out of the side of the pie (I still can't see where they escaped from) and onto the oven floor and burned which constantly made me think my kitchen was on fire, but that was neither here nor there.
Also, I made the Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream in Dorie's book. WOW. I never thought a non-custard based homemade ice cream could be this creamy. It tastes like blueberry yogurt. With none of the health benefits of yogurt. But it brings twice the happiness.
After all of these blueberries, I feel like Violet Beauregard. I always forget how catchy this song is.
And it will now be stuck in my head all day.

What a great looking pie, it turned out well. Serving the pie with ice cream sounds divine!

OMW...I was thinking of Violet and her trip to the juicer when I was making this pie...I can't believe you found that clip! I just love it when they roll 'ole Violet around and about. Sick, I know...poor Violet.
Anyway, your pie looks very very good and it was good you had a piece...research and all. Thanks for the laughs this morning!

I've learned that one little bite will never hurt and I agree, research is always good. Great looking pie and thanks, I now have the song stuck in my head :)

Your pie looks wonderful and the blueberry ice cream yummy. You have a good recipe for the pie dough and it makes all the difference. Still it's hard to know when it's the right consistency.

Hilarious reference to classic Charlie. The pie looks too too perfect with that ice cream.

I may have to reconsider my dislike of blueberries if they have the power to offset 2 1/2 sticks of butter! =) Nice job on the pie.

Your pie looks wonderful! Brilliant reference to Violet. My kids love that movie and that is one of their favourite scenes :)

Your pie and ice cream look great together. I bought more blueberries, can you believe it? Will have to make Dorie's Blueberry Ice Cream.
